The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), District One, is holding a design change reevaluation public hearing for proposed improvements to the US 27 at State Road (SR) 60 Interchange in Polk County. All members of the public are invited to attend.
FDOT will hold a design change reevaluation public hearing to discuss proposed improvements to the US 27 at SR 60 Interchange. These improvements include widening SR 60 and US 27 from four to six lanes within the project limits, reconstructing the existing SR 60 cloverleaf interchange to a Single Point Urban Interchange (SPUI) and constructing a new bridge over US 27. FDOT will construct a frontage road in the southwest quadrant of the interchange to aid with access to local businesses. Additional right-of-way is required for the frontage road and the interchange improvements. The hearing begins with an open house at 5 p.m. and follows with a formal presentation and public comment period at 6 p.m. People attending the hearing can review project displays and speak one-on-one with project team members. Written statements or exhibits submitted at the hearing, emailed, or mailed and postmarked by October 6, 2017 will become part of the official hearing transcript.
The department sent notices to all property owners located within at least 300 feet on either side of the SR 27 project limits, as well as other interested parties. Project information is available for public viewing from September 5, 2017 to October 6, 2017 at two locations. One is the Lake Wales Public Library, 290 Cypress Garden Lane, in Lake Wales, Florida. A public hearing is being held regarding plans to improve safety along South Tamiami Trail (US 41) through the installation of a raised median from 301 Boulevard West to 21st Avenue West. Other improvements include pedestrian crosswalk pavement markings across the north leg of US 41 at 30th Avenue, improvements to the existing drainage condition at 30th Avenue East, and updates to existing sidewalk curb ramps to bring them in compliance with the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA). The estimated construction cost is $767,000 and construction should begin during the summer of 2018.
The hearing will be held on Tuesday, September 26, 2017, at the Courtyard by Marriott, 100 Riverfront Drive West, Bradenton, FL 34205. There will be an open house at 5 p.m. during which staff will be available to discuss the project and answer questions, followed by the formal hearing presentation at 6 p.m., after which participants may provide their verbal comments to all present. People attending the hearing can review project displays and speak one-on-one with project team members about the proposed safety improvements to South Tamiami Trail (US 41).
Participants may also provide verbal comments directly to a court reporter before and after the formal presentation. Written comments can be submitted at the hearing, sent by mail to Richard Howard, PE, FDOT District One, 801 North Broadway Avenue, Bartow, FL 33830, or emailed to Richard.Howard@dot.state.fl.us, no later than October 6, 2017. All comments written and oral will become part of the project’s public record.

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), District Four, is conducting a Public Hearing for the SR 9 (I-95) at Northlake Boulevard Interchange Project Development and Environment (PD&E) Study. The Public Hearing is being held as part of a current Project Development & Environment (PD&E) Study. This study is being conducted to evaluate proposed interchange improvements at I-95 and Northlake Boulevard and to provide documented information necessary for FDOT to reach a decision on the type, design, and location of the improvements. The project is being developed to reduce congestion, enhance safety, and achieve an acceptable level-of-service while minimizing potential impacts to the natural and human environments. In the event the hearing is not able to be held due to severe weather conditions, it will be held at the same time and place on Wednesday, October 4, 2017.
Participants may review study information and formally comment during the meeting. These meetings provide interested persons an opportunity to express their views concerning the social, natural, cultural and physical impacts of the proposed improvements. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is holding a Westshore/West Tampa/South Tampa Community Working Groups meeting on Thursday, October 5th at 5:30 p.m. at the Centre Club, 123 S. The Metropolitan Planning Organization has been invited to present information about their upcoming Long Range Transportation Plan and the Hillsborough Area Regional Transit Authority (HART) will present the latest Regional Transit Feasibility Plan information. The format will encourage dialogue to address questions and ideas. The group discussions include topics such as multi-modal transportation and evaluating infrastructure improvements in the context of a comprehensive regional transportation system.
The Community Working Group is open to the public and represents a cross section within the community including individual citizens, neighborhood/HOA association representatives, civic and faith-based leaders, small business owners and business leaders, among others.
