The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), District One, is holding a Public Hearing to discuss the improvements on State Road /US 27 from north of Cloverleaf Road to south of State Road (SR) 66/SR 700/US 98 in Highlands County.
The hearing is Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at the Bert J. Harris Jr. Agricultural Center, O.S. “Sam” Polston Auditorium, 4509 George Blvd., Sebring, FL 33875. FDOT will hold this hearing to give interested persons the opportunity to view plans and project materials depicting the improvements. The hearing will begin with an open house at 5 p.m., with a formal presentation beginning at 6 p.m., and followed by a public comment period. after which participants may provide their verbal comments to all present. FDOT will conduct this public hearing to give interested persons an opportunity to express their views concerning the location, conceptual design, and social, economic, and environmental effects of the proposed improvements.
Participants may also provide verbal comments directly to a court reporter before and after the formal presentation. Written comments can be submitted at the hearing, sent by mail to Wayne Shelton, FDOT District One, 801 North Broadway Avenue, Bartow, FL 33830, or emailed to Wayne.Shelton@dot.state.fl.us, no later than November 9, 2018. All comments written and oral will become part of the project’s public record.
Project improvements include repaving the roadway; modifying the median openings, adding left turn lanes and converting existing full median openings to directional openings at several locations; replacing guardrail and improving drainage.

- The state of Florida will receive funding to support long term hurricane recovery efforts in Monroe County through the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO’s) CDBG-DR Program. Among other aspects of the funding, DEO has chosen to fund programs for the creation of workforce affordable rental new construction housing as well as to support the acquisition of land to build workforce affordable rental housing. FHFC will be DEO’s partner to administer these programs. Project Description: State Road 80/Southern Boulevard and Sansbury’s Way/Lyons Road in Palm Beach County, FL.
The project consists of intersection improvements at SR 80/Southern Boulevard and Sansbury’s Way/Lyons Road in unincorporated Palm Beach County. The 1-mile project includes adding an eastbound right-turn lane and a second westbound left-turn lane from Southern Boulevard to southbound Lyons Road; adding a second right-turn lane from northbound Lyons Road to eastbound Southern Boulevard; and adding a second northbound lane on Lyons Road and Sansbury’s Way. Other improvements include minor roadway widening, widening the Lyons Road bridge over the C-51 Canal, milling and resurfacing, drainage improvements, curb and gutter, lighting, guardrails, signalization, sidewalk, signage and pavement markings.
Construction will begin in October 2018 and is estimated to be completed in summer 2020. The estimated construction cost is $7.5 million.
During the informal open house, attendees will have the opportunity to review roadway improvements, construction plans and traffic control plans. FDOT staff and consultant staff members will be available to discuss the project and answer questions.
