- On March 27, 2020, the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act, 2020, Public Law 116-36, was signed into law. This law provides the CSBG program with an additional $29 million “to prevent, prepare for, or respond to the coronavirus in a manner allowed under the CSBG Act”. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Community Services allocated these funds to states, territories and tribes authorized under the CSBG Act to address the consequences of increasing unemployment and economic disruption as a result of COVID-19. States, in turn, will issue grants to Florida’s CSBG network of community action partners to enhance poverty-fighting efforts during this crucial time.
As the designated state services agency, DEO will administer programs funded under the CSBG CARES Act in accordance with applicable statutory requirements and federal regulations. Federal regulations related to the Department of Health and Human Services funding requests require states, such as Florida, that are applying for CSBG funding to prepare a State Plan as part of the application process. Another part of this process is providing the public an opportunity to review and comment on the contents of the State Plan.
A copy of the CSBG CARES Act Supplemental State Plan is available for public review online at: www.FloridaJobs.org/CSBG. Free copies are available by contacting: Ms. Debbie Smiley, Chief, Bureau of Economic Self-Sufficiency, Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, 107 East Madison Street, MSC 400, Tallahassee, Florida 32399-4120 by phone: 850-717-8450; fax: 850-488-2488; or email: Debbie.Smiley@DEO.MyFlorida.com.
