15A-5.010. Severe Mental Disorders  


Effective on Tuesday, July 31, 2018
  • 1(1) Applicants 3or licensed drivers 6who have been adjudged incompetent will not be considered capable of safely operating a motor vehicle unless their competency has been judicially restored.

    29(2) Applicants 31or licensed drivers 34who have suffered from severe mental disorders that have required hospitalization or treatment for six months or more must present a 55Mental Status Examination Form, HSMV 72481, effective 07/18, 63http://www.flrules.org/Gateway/reference.asp?No=Ref-09595, 65herein incorporated by reference, from a licensed psychiatrist of their 75mental ability to safely operate a motor vehicle. 83A copy of the form is available on the Department’s website. 94Mental disorders may include:

    98(a) Acute and/or chronic psychotic reaction;

    104(b) Personality disorders that manifest violent or aggressive behavior;

    113(c) Other serious mental disorders that interfere with judgment or reaction time.
