  • 1The course requirements set forth in Section 8491.005(4), F.S., 10shall contain the following content:

    15(1) 16Counseling Theories and Practice: 20Counseling and personality theories including both individual and systems perspectives as well as coverage of relevant research and factors considered in applications of these theories.

    45(2) Human Growth and Development: 50Theories of individual and family development and transitions across the life span (including theories of learning and personality development) and strategies for facilitating development over the life span.

    78(3) Diagnosis and Treatment of Psychopathology: 84General principles of etiology, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mental and emotional disorders and dysfunctional behavior, and general principles and practices for the promotion of optimal mental health.

    112(4) Human Sexuality: 115Research and theories of human sexual development (including research and theories of normal and abnormal sexual functioning) and general principles and practices for the treatment of sexual dysfunctions and the promotion of optimal sexual health.

    150(5) Group Theories and Practice: 155Principles of group dynamics, group counseling, and group leadership including group process components, developmental stage theories, and group member roles and behavior.

    177(6) Individual Evaluation and Assessment: 182Strategies for selecting, administering, interpreting, and using valid and reliable individual and group assessment and evaluation instruments and techniques in counseling and psychotherapy.

    205(7) Career and Lifestyle Assessment: 210Principles and practices of career lifestyle counseling (including career and lifestyle assessment instruments and techniques, career development theories, and career decision-making models) and career information dissemination (including computer based career development applications and strategies).

    244(8) Research and Program Evaluation: 249Principles, practices, and applications of basic types of research methods (including qualitative and quantitative research designs), needs assessment, and program evaluation, and ethical and legal considerations in research.

    277(9) Social and Cultural Foundations: 282Multicultural and pluralistic trends including characteristics and concerns of diverse groups based on such factors as age, race, religious preference, physical disability, sexual orientation, ethnicity and culture, family patterns, gender, socioeconomic status, and intellectual ability.

    317(10) Substance Abuse: 320Research and theories of substance use and abuse, and principles and practices for the treatment of substance abuse and dependency and the promotion of responsible behavior.

    346(11) Legal, Ethical, and Professional Standards Issues: 353Goals, objectives, and practices of professional counseling organizations, codes of ethics, legal considerations, standards of preparation, certifications, and licensing, and the role identity and professional obligations of mental health counselors383.
