64E-5.654. Training for Use of Sealed Sources for Diagnosis

  • 1Except as provided in Rule 664E-5.657, 7F.A.C., the licensee shall require the authorized user of a sealed source in a device specified in Rule 2564E-5.631, 26F.A.C., to 28be a physician, dentist, or podiatrist34:

    35(1) Be certified by a specialty board whose certification process includes all of the requirements in subsections 5264E-5.654(2) 53and (3), F.A.C., of this section and whose certification has been recognized by the NRC or an agreement state.  (The names of board certifications which have been recognized by the NRC or an agreement state will be posted on the NRC’s Web page at http://www.nrc.gov/materials/miau/med-use-toolkit/spec-board-cert.html.); or

    99(2) Have completed 8 hours of classroom and laboratory training in basic radionuclide handling techniques specifically applicable to the use of the device. The training must include the following:

    128(a) Radiation physics and instrumentation;

    133(b) Radiation protection;

    136(c) Mathematics pertaining to the use and measurement of radioactivity; and

    147(d) Radiation biology; and

    151(3) Have completed training in the use of the device for the uses requested.
