62C-29.007. Pressure Tests

Effective on Sunday, March 24, 1996
  • 1(1) Type I Wells. The production casing, tubing, and packers in all Type I wells shall be tested to a pressure equivalent to the length of production casing multiplied by .1 psi/ft. This pressure shall be applied at the surface for 30 minutes with no more than a 10% pressure drop. If there is evidence of a leak or an invalid test, necessary remedial measures shall be taken, and the casing retested. This pressure test shall be conducted after every fishing job or if requested by the Department. All pressure tests shall be recorded on the driller’s log.

99(2) Type II Wells. The production casing, tubing, and packers in all Type II wells shall be pressure tested in the same manner as Type I well except that the test pressure shall be half as great.

136(3) Mechanical Integrity Tests. Pressure requirements for Class II MIT's shall be 1.15 times the actual injection pressure of the well being tested. If the pressure is applied to the back side of the tubing on the packer and injection casing, the required pressure shall be .2 psi/ft for new wells and .1 psi/ft for existing wells. Pressure requirements for Class II wells constituting very low environmental risk (injection pressures less than 250 psig, injecting only freshwater, etc.) shall be, upon request, set correspondingly lower.

221(4) Any well showing pressure on the casinghead, or leaking fluids between the production casing and the next larger casing string, shall be tested and repaired in accordance with this section.
