    RULE NO.:RULE TITLE:

61G15-20.007Educational Requirements for Applicants without EAC/ABET Accredited Engineering Degrees

The Board of Professional Engineers hereby gives notice: of the issuance of an Order regarding the Petition for Variance or Waiver, filed on October 10, 2022 by Hany Abdelmessih. The Notice of Petition for Variance or Waiver was published in Vol. 48 No. 198, of the October 11, 2022, Florida Administrative Register. Petitioner sought a variance from or a waiver of Rule 61G15-20.007, F.A.C., which establishes criteria by which an Applicant without an EAC/ABET approved undergraduate engineering degree can establish educational equivalency as required by section 471.013, F.S., and thus qualify for licensure in Florida. The Petitioner’s educational evaluation demonstrates Petitioner is lacking 9.0 hours of General Education coursework, and thus, whose education is not determined to be equivalent to an approved engineering degree. The Board considered the instant Petition at a duly noticed public meeting held on December 8, 2022. The Board’s Order was filed on December 15, 2022. The Board finds that Petitioner has failed to meet the purpose of the underlying statute by other means and has failed to demonstrate application of the rule to Petitioner would create an undue hardship or violate principles of fairness. Based upon the above findings the Petition for Waiver of Rule 61G15-20.007, F.A.C., should be denied, and has been dismissed by Petitioner’s withdrawal, as specified in the Order.

A copy of the Order or additional information may be obtained by contacting: Zana Raybon, Executive Director, Board of Professional Engineers, 2400 Mahan Drive, Tallahassee, Florida 32308, or telephone: (850)521-0500, or by email: zraybon@fbpe.org.
