GENERAL SUBJECT MATTER TO BE CONSIDERED:
Project Name: University City Prosperity Project. The Florida International University (FIU) and the City of Sweetwater (Sweetwater) will be hosting a Public Meeting to discuss the proposed UniversityCity pedestrian-oriented transit access improvements along SW 109th Avenue from SW 8th Street to SW 6th Street in Sweetwater, FL, Miami-Dade County and across US 41/SW 8th Street into FIU’s Modesto A. Maidique Campus (Maidique Campus) to a proposed community transit stop located adjacent to the Engineering & Computer Science (ECS), Owa Ehan (OE), and Wertheim Conservatory (WC) buildings and an Advanced Intermodal and Multimodal Station (AIMS) located in and adjacent to the proposed Parking Garage 6 (PG6) located east of the Red Parking Garage (PGR). Please see http://campusmaps.fiu.edu/mmc-map.pdf for the campus map and building locations.
Project Description: US DOT TIGER funds will be used to support an innovative package of technology, sidewalk, streetscaping, and transit improvements to connect Sweetwater with FIU. One of the principle uses of these TIGER and matching funds will be to construct a new signature, pedestrian-oriented bridge over a busy arterial road (US 41/ SW 8th Street at the intersection with SW 109th Avenue). These improvements collectively are designed to increase access to jobs, create safe transit, and link two portions of FIU’s campuses that are currently disconnected. The improvements are expected to support economic growth of FIU as a major public research university and adjacent City of Sweetwater. See 2013 UniversityCity TIGER Proposal and Award Documents at http://cake.fiu.edu/TIGER2013/ and UniversityCity summaries provided at http://cake.fiu.edu/#UniversityCity.
Food & Refreshments: For the convenience of participants desiring to purchase food prior to the meeting, the Market Station Food Court, adjacent to PG5-155, will remain open until 5:30 pm. No food or refreshments are allowed in Classroom PG5-155.
Public participation is solicited without regard to race, color, national origin, age, sex, religion, disability
or family status. Persons with disabilities who require special accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) or persons who require translation services (free of charge) should contact Kenneth Jessell, TIGER/University City Prosperity Project Institutional Lead at (305)348-1776 or mmunozre@fiu.edu at least seven (7) days prior to the workshop.
