    DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH

    Board of Physical Therapy Practice

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Board of Physical Therapy Practice has issued an order denying the Petition for Declaratory Statement filed by Karen Rhoads on March 24, 2020. On January 30, 2020 Petitioner sought the agency’s opinion as to the applicability of Rule 64B17-6.001, F.A.C., with questions: (1) “Is the physical therapist assistant qualified to write and sign a discharge note and/or a letter of medical necessity for equipment?” and (2) “Can it be written by a Physical Therapist Assistant and then be co-signed by the supervising Physical Therapist?”

The Notice of Petition for Declaratory Statement was published in Vol. 46, No. 23, on February 4, 2020, in the Florida Administrative Register. The Board, at its meeting held on February 21, 2020, voted to deny the Petition for Declaratory Statement finding that the responsibilities of the supervising physical therapist set forth in the rule are clear as written, and no further interpretation by the Board is needed.

A copy of the Board’s Order or additional information may be obtained by contacting Allen Hall, Executive Director, Board of Physical Therapy Practice, 4052 Bald Cypress Way, Bin #C05, Tallahassee, Florida 32399-3253, Allen.Hall@flhealth.gov.
