Specialty ARS
NOTICE TO SPECIALITY VENDORS
MATERIAL PROCESSING AND HANDLING EQUIPMENT
The University of Central Florida has a need to retain a company to provide the design engineering, fabrication, installation, and maintenance of an Automatic Retrieval System (ARS) for library materials related to our UCF Library expansion. The ARS design will incorporate high density shelving (up to 45 feet high), with materials placed in lateral bins by like-material size. Robotic cranes will be dispatched via user command, linking the library’s integrated library system (ILS) with the ARS software, to retrieve and deliver a bin to a workstation for item-selection by staff. During design the company will provide design services through a contract with UCF, but will directly coordinate with the Architect, Mechanical, Electrical, and Structural Engineers on the project. During construction the company will provide a cost proposal to the Construction Manager who will coordinate the installation of the ARS with the construction of the project. During construction, UCF will issue a Direct Owner Purchase Order (DOPO) to purchase the ARS system directly from the selected company for tax savings purposes.
Project Description: the UCF Library expansion project is nearing the completion of Design Development for the first phase of the project. The first phase consists of a stand-alone building adjacent to our existing Library, which will house an ARS with an anticipated three robotic cranes, three double sided aisles, six end-of-aisle workstations (EAWS), and bin capacity to hold approximately 750,000 volumes of material. The second phase of the project will add capacity to the ARS to hold an additional 500,000 volumes of material in two aisles with two cranes and equivalent hardware, for a total of 1,250,000 volumes of material in five aisles. The selected company will provide the ARS for both phase one and two.
Engineering coordination is anticipated to take place between May 2015 and October 2015. Resources for this engineering effort must be available during these times for coordination with the Library design team. Coordination drawings by the ARS engineers are expected to be at a shop drawing level of design to promote full design coordination.
Instructions for submitting a proposal can be found on the Project Fact Sheet. The Project Fact Sheet and General Contractor’s Form may be obtained on our website www.fp.ucf.edu or by contacting: Gina Seabrook, Email: gina.seabrook@ucf.edu, Phone: (407)823-5894.
