    RULE NO.:RULE TITLE:

61G15-20.007Educational Requirements for Applicants without EAC/ABET Accredited Engineering Degrees

The Board of Professional Engineers hereby gives notice of the issuance of an Order Granting Petition for Variance or Waiver of Rule 61G15-20.007, F.A.C., filed on October 29, 2012, by Aditya Ayithi. The Notice of Petition for Variance or Waiver was published in Vol. 39, No. 10, the January 15, 2013 Florida Administrative Register. No comments on the Petition were received. The Board considered the Petition at a duly-noticed public meeting on January 8, 2013. The Petitioner sought a waiver of the provision of paragraphs 61G15-20.007(1)(a) and (b), F.A.C., that applicants for licensure without EAC/ABET accredited undergraduate engineering degrees have at least thirty-two (32) hours of math and basic sciences and at least sixteen (16) hours of humanities and social sciences. Specifically, Petitioner lacked eleven (11) hours of mathematics and basic sciences and sixteen (16) hours of humanities and social sciences.

The Board found that the Petition was in substantial compliance with the provisions of Section 120.542, Florida Statutes, and Chapter 28-104, Florida Administrative Code. The Board found that, based on the Petitioner’s submissions and testimony, the Petitioner showed that strict application of the rule would constitute an undue hardship on Petitioner. The Board further found that the applicant achieved the purpose of the underlying statute by other means. The Board approved the Petition for Waiver or Variance of Rule 61G15-20.007, F.A.C., and further approved the Petitioner’s application for licensure. The Board filed its final order on April 3, 2017.
